Using Your NFC Tag Starter Kit v2.0

Thank you for your order! Discover the endless possibilities of NFC. This model includes includes 15 near field communication (NFC) tags with NXP Semiconductor’s NFC Forum Type 2/4/5 of their NTAG® and ICODE® tag IC platforms. Supporting a wide variety of features and security levels for different application requirements, all tags are equally compatible with Android and Apple iOS devices, including tablets and mobile phones.

How to Get Started

Apple iOS Checklist

  1. Install the latest iOS update to your Apple device (iOS 11 or higher is required to read NFC tags)
  2. All NFC tags are compatible with iOS 11, 12, and 13 on iPhone® 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, and iPhone 11 models
  3. NFC tags in this kit are pre-programmed with a sample URL such as: http://www.nxp.com/NFC/app-dev-resource-hub or http://identiv.com/nfc-kit. Another URL may be programmed by default on your tags.
  4. Tags are configured to enable URL reprogramming, although this feature is not possible from an iPhone that is NOT iOS 13-enabled*
  5. In order to read a tag from your iPhone, an NFC Data Exchange Format (NDEF) message must be present on the tag, containing the default URL or any NFC Forum-approved message type, including smart poster, Short Service Message (SMS), business card, and others
  6. Download NFC TagInfo by NXP from the Apple App Store, a mobile app for iOS that scans tags, displays information, and can be set to complete an NFC-NDEF action automatically
  7. Open the app and start scanning any programmed NFC Forum tags

* If your kit includes an Identiv contactless reader with a USB port, connect it to your Mac and use the NXP TagXplorer to reprogram your tags.

Android Checklist

  1. Check the “Settings” on your NFC enabled Android and ensure you have NFC switched on
  2. If the NFC capability is disabled, activate it
  3. NFC tags in this kit are pre-programmed with a sample URL such as: http://www.nxp.com/NFC/app-dev-resource-hub or http://identiv.com/nfc-kit. Another URL may be programmed by default on your tags.
  4. Tags are configured to enable NDEF record reprogramming by a variety of applications, including NFC TagWriter by NXP from Google Play**
  5. No specific Android application is required to read tags containing an NDEF message, any NFC enabled Android phone can scan these tags
  6. To get more detailed information, like NXP chip models, versions, and other programmed information on the tags (including NDEF messages), download NFC TagInfo by NXP from Google Play

** If your kit includes an Identiv contactless reader with a USB port, you can also connect it to your PC and use the NXP TagXplorer to reprogram tags
